African drumming, dancing, and tie-dye classes

Take classes in a Gambian village named Jakoi Bintang, near the Bintang Bolong River. Depending on your desired comfort level, you can either stay in a room in someone's compound in town, or you can stay in the attractive AbCa Creek Lodge and take a 10-minute bike ride into town.

As with most trips , the highlight of a trip to The Gambia is certainly to get on the inside of the culture: to see the goings-on inside a family compound, to feel the complex rhythms when the women pound the cous.

Prices

Bintang Beat is a social business.

A standard two-hour class is 8€ or the equivalent in dalasi. 4€ goes to your teacher, 2€ supports Jakoi Bintang's Women's Association, and 2€ supports Merry, the organizer and nursery school teacher.

Lamin Badjie (see rutasgambia.com) can drive you from the airport to the town or to Abca Creek Lodge.
